[EASY] How To Verify Website in Google Search Console 2022

Google has launched Direct Domain Verification (Auto DNS Verification) in Google Search Console for the last two years.

Google search console is the first step of any website's SEO strategy. In today's tutorial, we will see how to verify a website on a search console, know its benefits and what is Google search console in the end.  Why you must link your website with the google search console.

Google search console was earlier called google webmaster tool, which gives the website owner a means to direct the webmaster to contact google.  Direct contact does not mean that you can chat 1-1 with google employees, but through the search console,

1: Prove Ownership ✔

You can prove in front of google that you are the website owner.

2: Provide Sitemap ✔

You can give a sitemap of your website to google, and you can see which part of your website is crawling by google correctly and which is not crawling properly.

3: Generate & Check Robots.txt ✔

You can generate robots.txt and see if you have blocked any part of your website.

4: Get Traffic & Link Details ✔

You can see the issues related to the website's traffic, like which website is linking your website and which website is not doing it.

5: Schema & Rich Snippet Issues ✔

You can see the information related to the schema data and rich snippets of your website.

So these are the things that you get from the search console, but at the same time, google also has a lot of benefits from the search console.

1: Notify About Hacked Website ✔

Google gets to know directly that you are the owner of XYZ website, and whenever they find any problem on any website, like if your website is hacked or if there is any malicious code or virus on your website which allows visitors to pass on. are happening. So google can send you notifications.

2: Notify About Penalties ✔

If any action has been taken on your website or any penalties have been received, then google can contact you about that too.

3: Send Monthly Newsletter ✔

This has also been started by google recently. You may get monthly emails from google related to the performance and traffic of your website.

So, now come how to add a website in the search console?  So basically, two types of web properties can be added to the google search console. If you log in to the search console first, you will get the option to add property on the first window itself. Otherwise, you must go to the top left corner and click on add property.

Now, a popup window will appear in front of you with two options, domain and URL prefix. URL prefix is an old method, and the domain is a new method. Let's try to understand the difference between Domain and URL prefixes.

Domain ✔
You can only add a naked domain in the domain method.

URL prefix ✔
In the URL prefix, you can add different types of properties in addition to the naked domain, Like

By choosing the URL prefix method, you get a lot of verification options like uploading an HTML file through a hosting account, putting an HTML tag on the website's homepage, through google analytics and google tag manager. For the smart people, yes, below the domain name, there is also a provider method.

So all these URLs were prefix methods, apart from the method by which only naked domains can be verified.  This advantage is that you only have to verify the domain name. After all the sub-domains inside it, whether with www without www, HTTPS, or HTTP, all versions can be covered, and this method can be used.  One small disadvantage is that you get only one way to verify: add a txt record in DNS configuration in the domain name account.

Looks tough? Won't it? It is not so tough, it is just listening, but still, due to the different menus of different hosting services, this process becomes quite tough, so google has given a very easy way in which google itself can help you. You can verify your account and domain name by logging into the hosting account once.

So, today we will see verification by these three methods. ✔

Before we look at these three methods, I must say one thing. This is the first domain name method of verification. It can link your domain name, link to your website, and URL with the google search console without directly touching the hosting of your website. So all the services that give you self-hosted websites, in which you do not go directly to hosting or edit files.

Whatever the platform, you can add the website built on it with the google search console, this is a very easy way, and you have to follow only a few steps. In a hundred domain verification methods, you get only two methods for verification,  Automatic and manual.  And in the prefix method, you also get an HTML tag along with these two.

So, let's add domain property,

in this box, you have to enter your domain name. Remember domain name is not to be added with HTTPS or www. only add a domain name.

After clicking on continue, you will see a window like this,

for automatic verification, click on any DNS provider at the top of this window and select the website from which you have purchased your domain name. And then click on start verification.

A new window will open,

In this, you will have to log in to your Godaddy account, and google will automatically check your DNS setting and complete the verification.

It is possible that you will see notification of verification failed in this way,

But if you check after 1-2 hours, you will see your website verified.  Many times after changing the DNS record, it takes some time to take effect, it takes 1-2 hours, so if you have logged into your hosting account correctly, then you see this kind of message, then it does not matter. You can close the search console. After 1-2 hours, your website will be verified if you check again.

Now, let's look at manual DNS verification. Technically, this process is also the same as automatic DNS verification. But in this, you have to change the DNS record yourself. Basically, only the txt record has to be added to the DNS record of this domain. Change can also be done in your domain registration account and can also be done in your hosting account.

So first, we see how this change can be done in the domain registrar account. After that, we will again see this method in our hosting account through the c-panel.

Again we go to add property menu and type a domain name in the domain method and click on the continue button, and now you will see your txt record value here,

copy this whole code as it is and In the new window, open your domain registrar account.

I am using Namecheap in this example, but you will also get a similar option in your hosting account.

Basically, you have to go to the advanced setting of the DNS of your domain name. (Advanced DNS) After clicking on the Advanced DNS setting, click on add new record button. You will get many options here, but you must select the txt record.  In this again, such a window will appear.

There will be a host section, which you can leave blank.  Or you can just type the @ symbol, and you have to paste CTRL+V by going to the value field so that the txt record you got is pasted here from the search console window.  You can leave the TTL field on the side as default and save it.  After this, you will go to the search console window and press the verify button, and your account will be verified by linking with the search console.

We can do the same process in the Cpanel also. You must type zone editor in the Cpanel in the top search bar and click on it.

Next to your domain name, you will see the manage button. Click on it,

if you do not see the manage button here, you will have to email your hosting provider so that they can turn it on immediately, there is a very small option, and they do it for free. I will turn it on.

After clicking on the Manage button, click on the small triangle on the right side of the add record.  There select add TXT record,

Here in the hostname, you can enter your domain name only and let the TTL be set to the default value.

The type will remain TXT, and after going to the record field, press CTRL+V again so that the TXT data you got from the search console is posted here. Press add the record, and now you go back to the search console and click the verify button.  Your domain name will be verified with the search console if you do. So, these were the two ways to add domain property.

Now the third method is HTML file upload. This method is available only in URL prefix property type then click on add property button and enter your link in the URL prefix section here.  Here you have to paste exactly the same link that you are using. If you are using HTTP, then enter HTTP. If using HTTPS, enter HTTPS, and if using www, enter www and click on the continue button.

After clicking on the continue button, you will see a window in which the Html file option will open. You have to download the .html file there.

Now you have to log in to the C panel in the second tab and click on File Manager.

You have to go to the main folder of your website, which is the public HTML folder, go to it and click on the upload button and then select the file you just downloaded and that's it.  Going back to the search console window, you must click the verify button. It will be linked with your search console.

The specialty of this method is that there is no delay. It may take an hour to update the DNS record. It may take two hours. Still, your account is verified as soon as the file is uploaded, so this is a very quick method. However, I would suggest you always add domain-type property only unless you have to use a prefix for technical reasons. If you add domain property, then all your suffix prefixes get covered.

So, This was a very easy way. I hope you can verify your website in the search console by any of these steps and even verify blogger, WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Weebly, or any type of website. The search console is the first step of your SEO journey.
